What Is A Medical Transcriptionist?

In the broadest sense, medical transcription is the act of translating, from oral to printed form, the record of a patient’s medical history and treatment. Physicians rely on the judgment and reasoning of experienced medical transcriptionists to safeguard the accuracy and integrity of medical dictation. A medical transcriptionist is looked upon as a language specialist. The physical demands of being a medical transcriptionist are that of primarily sedentary work, with continuous use of earphones, keyboard, foot control and video display terminal.

A Professional Medical Language Specialist Requires: IBM

Compatible Computer
Digital Transcription Kit and/or Transcriber (micro/mini)
Microsoft Word Software
Reference Books, including a good medical dictionary
E-Mail
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, clinical medicine, surgery, diagnostic tests, radiology, pathology, pharmacology and the various medical specialties, as required in areas of responsibility.
Knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices.
Excellent written and oral communication skills; including English usage, grammar, punctuation and style.
Ability to understand diverse accents and dialects and varying dictation styles.
Ability to use designated reference materials.
Ability to operate designated word processing, dictation and transcription equipment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.
Ability to concentrate.
Excellent listening skills.
Excellent eye, hand and auditory coordination.

The Job Responsibilities Of A Medical Language Specialist Are:

Transcribe medical dictation, with absolute accuracy, to provide a permanent record of patient care.
Demonstrate an understanding of the medicolegal implications and responsibilities related to the transcription of patient records to protect the patient and the business/institution.
Operate effectively, skillfully and efficiently designated word processing, dictation and transcription equipment, as directed, to complete assignments.
Follow policies and procedures, seeking assistance and clarification to resolve problems.
Expand job-related knowledge and skills to improve performance and adjust to change.

2. Legal Transcriptionist

USAType contracts with medical and legal transcriptionists who strive for accuracy and dedication and work well as a team member.

USAType provides a secure web platform, which is user-friendly. You will need to provide your own computer system, with Windows XP or higher, 2+ gig of RAM, Microsoft Word 2007 or higher, high-speed internet connection and foot pedal. We provide training and ongoing assistance to ensure contractor, company, and client satisfaction.

3. Non-Medical Transcriptionist

wordZXpressed is a busy, well-established transcription company in Atlanta, GA with IMMEDIATE OPENINGS for part-time, home-based, general transcriptionists (throughout the U.S.) with at least 1 year of general transcription experience. Legal, insurance, and financial experience is a plus. Good income potential based on production. Only applicants meeting the experience requirements will be considered.

Details About the Position

A minimum of one year of general transcription experience is required .
We have part-time, employee-based positions available.
The position requires working four hours a day Monday through Friday with a start time of 2:00 or 3:00 p.m. EST.
The line rate is $0.071 based on a 65 character with spaces line, as shown in the statistics of Microsoft Word.
Your employment will be subject to a criminal background check.
You will receive account specific instructions and procedures as part of your orientation and training.
After your initial training period, you will be required to meet the following quotas:
At the end of 30 days, you are required to transcribe 1 hour of audio per day.
Computer software and hardware requirements for the position are:

Windows 7 Home Premium/Pro/Ultimate, Windows 8, or Windows 10.
Word 2013 or 2016 (Locally installed 32-bit versions ONLY; No Starter Edition or Office 365 Online Only Editions)
Antivirus program with daily virus definition updates (Except Webroot antivirus), and
You must have an Infinity pedal and an available USB port for your foot pedal. If you do not have a pedal, we can provide you with a website to purchase the pedal.
High-speed internet connection (DSL or cable modem only). No Satellite.
